Environmental Development Goals in the Manufacture of Concrete Elements
An essential part of our efforts to reduce emissions is the continuous identification and implementation of new areas for development in our production.
Recycling of Crushed Concrete in Our Own Production

The goal of the Parma Hyrylä hollow-core slab plant is to recycle all hardened concrete waste from its own production back into the process. This ensures that no concrete waste is generated during the manufacture of precast elements that ends up outside the plant. In addition to the Hyrylä plant, the recycling of in-house concrete waste is also being gradually implemented at the hollow-core slab plants in Nurmijärvi and Uurainen.
Recycling of Process Water in Production
The sawing of hollow-core slabs generates process water, which is treated at the Hyrylä hollow-core slab plant and reused in production as much as possible. This prevents the discharge of process water into the sewer system.

Enhanced Monitoring of Energy and Water Consumption

Parma’s plants have been participating in enhanced energy and water monitoring since 2016. The goal of this monitoring is to identify potential consumption anomalies, enable comparisons between plants with similar operations, and track the impact of implemented energy efficiency measures.
Energy Efficiency Agreements
We have committed to a voluntary energy efficiency agreement with a target of 7.5% energy savings during the agreement period from 2017 to 2025. All of the company’s plants are participating. The actual savings are calculated based on the impact of the energy-saving measures implemented and are reported annually to Motiva.
