Speed and reliability are the most important factors in data center construction

In April, we participated in the Datacenter Forum Helsinki event, where we analyzed the key success factors in data center construction. Speed of construction and reliability of delivery emerged as the most important factors by far. The event’s attendees considered the building’s energy efficiency to be the second most important factor.

Finland is increasingly positioning itself as a key location for new data centers. Affordable renewable energy, a geopolitically advantageous location at the crossroads of East and West, effective opportunities for utilizing waste heat, and a stable society supported by EU and NATO membership all underpin this development.

The rapid growth of data center construction was evident at the Datacenter Forum Helsinki event, which was attended by over 600 ICT professionals. In a field survey conducted at Consolis Parma’s booth, we identified the critical elements of successful data center construction.

“At our booth, event guests were asked to select the most important cornerstones of successful data center construction from five different options. Fast and reliable construction emerged as the clear number one in our survey. The result was not surprising, as delays in data center projects have truly significant financial implications,” says Satu Parikka, Head of the Sales Team at Consolis Parma.

“The next most important factors were the building’s energy efficiency and lower emissions during the construction phase. Design flexibility, fire safety, and sustainable construction also received a lot of votes from visitors,” Parikka continues.

“It’s great to see that the same factors we consider important are also significant to the public interested in data center construction. We have been involved in several mega-scale construction projects in Finland, and I strongly believe that we can demonstrate our delivery capabilities in these demanding data center projects,” Parikka concludes.

Early-stage collaboration ensures success

Parma has been involved in numerous data center projects in Finland, and deliveries are currently underway for several new data centers. Collaboration initiated during the project development phase ensures smooth and climate-friendly construction.

“Together with our sister companies, we have been involved in dozens of data center projects in Finland and Europe. In addition to building construction products, our selection also includes, for example, various cable duct solutions. Our service portfolio also includes the design and installation of precast concrete elements,” says Jarno Käyhty, Sales Manager at Consolis Parma specializing in data centers.

“Collaboration initiated as early as possible yields the best results. We can assess the emissions impact of a data center project’s precast concrete structure and, with the support of our own alternative design work, develop the most material-efficient solutions,” Käyhty adds.
