Consolis Parma’s own design plays a key role in data center construction
An important task for Parma’s alternative design is to develop concrete element options that streamline construction. In data center construction, Parma’s expert alternative design is most beneficial when cooperation begins at an early stage of the project. During the implementation phase, Parma strives to incorporate the supplier’s own design into its element deliveries.
Parma’s goal is to be responsible for the precast concrete element design of its own production. For the customer, this means higher quality, more cost-effective, and reliable element deliveries. This strategy has been pursued with determination for a long time, and the company’s design expertise has been strengthened. The ultimate goal is to streamline the construction process on site and improve quality.
“Year after year, we have increased the proportion of our own design in our deliveries with the help of our skilled design team. We are able to include element design in our deliveries and, if necessary, alternative design and overall stability calculations,” says Design Manager Pasi Salmela.
“For example, in data center projects, we can design and model efficient frame solutions in line with our product concepts already at the project planning stage. With the help of an information model, we can illustrate the overall design of the data center construction to the parties involved and compare the effects of different solutions on the implementation,” Salmela continues.
Why manufacturer’s own design?
Parma’s own designers are familiar with the company’s specific production needs and the standard solutions in use.
“By also taking care of the design of the elements, we lighten our customers’ workload and help them to complete their construction projects more smoothly, with higher quality, more cost-effectively, and with an even smaller carbon footprint. At the same time, we take responsibility for the accuracy of the designs and assume the schedule risks associated with the design process,” Salmela explains.
A functional and secure concrete data center
Efficient implementation and a short construction time are essential for a successful data center project. In this sense, the manufacturer’s own design is also a worthwhile investment.
“Our own design service effectively reduces schedule and price risks. Our prices are competitive, and an additional advantage is that element deliveries manufactured based on our own design can be completed up to several weeks faster than deliveries based on external designs,” says Sales Team Manager Satu Parikka.
“By starting cooperation at an early stage, we can determine the emission impacts of the concrete element frame of the data center project and develop the most material-efficient solutions with the support of our alternative designs,” Parikka continues.
“In addition to being low-carbon, concrete provides certainty in controlling indoor air conditions and energy efficiency in data centers. Prestressed concrete structures and large, unobstructed spaces ensure good air circulation in server rooms. Massive concrete structures store heat and stabilize indoor air cooling. Concrete is a fire-safe building material, and concrete wall and ceiling structures provide strong protection against external impacts,” Parikka lists.
